On May 28, Wu Jiaxuan, revered elder statesman of the Chinese tea community, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Jamaica, and former Vice President of the Wu Juenong Tea Ideology Research Association, passed away peacefully in Beijing at the age of 95.
As the eldest son of Wu Juenong—universally venerated as modern China’s “Tea Saint” and the pioneer of modern scientific tea education and institutional revitalization—Wu Jiaxuan inherited a lifelong devotion to the tea industry. Throughout his distinguished diplomatic career and subsequent leadership in the Overseas Chinese Tea Development Research Foundation, he tirelessly championed the internationalization of Chinese tea culture and the educational heritage established by his father.
Wu Jiaxuan was widely admired for his gentle erudition, patriotic integrity, and unwavering support for young tea scholars and rural producers. His passing marks the close of a generational chapter, yet his vision for Chinese tea as a vehicle for global harmony and intellectual exchange remains an enduring beacon for the entire tea world.
