In Memoriam: Eminent Tea Statesman Gao Linyi and His Lifelong Agrarian Devotion

On July 30, Gao Linyi, renowned elder of the contemporary Chinese tea industry, recipient of the “Meritorious Tea Figure of Six Decades” and the Juenong Medal, passed away peacefully in Beijing at the age of 95.

Having served as Deputy Director of the Agricultural Bureau under the Ministry of Agriculture, Gao Linyi dedicated over seven decades of tireless service to agrarian revitalization, scientific cultivar propagation, and rural tea farmer welfare. Throughout historical shifts and agricultural transitions, his focus remained steadfastly anchored in improving the economic livelihoods of grassroots mountain growers.

Colleagues and agricultural scholars remember him as a leader of exceptional humility, scientific rigor, and boundless affection for rural communities. His lifetime of devoted stewardship leaves an enduring legacy across China’s tea mountains.
